What's wrong, in plain English

Inside the big battery that powers your Ioniq 5, some of the cells were built with parts that do not line up correctly. Over time that flaw can start a fire, whether the car is parked or being driven. Until a dealer replaces the battery, Hyundai says to park outdoors and away from buildings, and to charge the car only to 80 percent instead of full. The new battery costs you nothing. Owner letters are due to go out August 31, 2026.

1. Park outside and away from your home or garage, and set your charging limit to 80 percent.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Ioniq 5 vehicles. The high voltage battery cells may contain misaligned electrodes, which can lead to a fire while parked or driving.
Safety risk
A fire increases the risk of injury.
Remedy
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and limit their charge to a maximum of 80% until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the high voltage battery system assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 31, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai's customer service at 855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 305.
