Serious: suddenly losing the ability to accelerate raises the risk of a crash, so schedule the repair soon, although the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle.

What's wrong, in plain English

The rear gear drive unit is the motor assembly that drives the rear wheels. Inside it, a shaft may have been welded badly at the factory, and a bad weld can leave the shaft damaged. If that happens, the vehicle can lose drive power — pressing the accelerator no longer moves you forward. Losing power in traffic or on the highway can put you in a crash. Dealers will replace the entire rear drive unit at no charge.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your 2025 EV9 is included.
2. Call a Kia dealer, or Kia customer service at 800-333-4542 (recall SC337), for an appointment.
3. Have the rear gear drive unit replaced — free of charge.

Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2025 EV9 vehicles. The rear gear drive unit (GDU) motor shaft may have been improperly welded and become damaged, causing a loss of drive power.
Safety risk
A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the rear GDU, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 7, 2025. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC337.
