Lincoln MKT door pillar trim can detach while driving

NHTSA campaign 25V827000 · Reported 2025-12-01 · Ford Motor Company

medium How serious is it? About this label

The danger is mainly to other people rather than to you, and the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle, so you can keep driving, but a piece flying off on a highway can cause a crash behind you.

What's wrong, in plain English

The trim panels covering the posts between your Lincoln's front and rear doors, the strips beside the driver's and front passenger's seats, can come loose and fall off while you are driving. A piece coming off at speed can land in the road behind you and become an obstacle that other drivers hit or swerve around. Ford has sent an early warning letter, but the actual fix is not ready yet; a second letter is expected around July 2026, and the repair is free.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, where these vehicles became searchable on December 2, 2025. 2. Call a Lincoln dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 25SD5) to ask what can be done now and to be booked as soon as the final free repair is released, expected July 2026. 3. Check the trim beside your seats for looseness or rattling, and report it to the dealer if you find any.
