Dodge Hornet rear seat belts may not retract properly

NHTSA campaign 26V510000 · Reported 2026-08-06 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) · medium severity what's this?

Affected vehicles

What's wrong, in plain English

The rear seat belts on the outer seats can get twisted inside the mechanism that pulls the belt back in. When that happens, the belt does not wind up the way it should and may not sit correctly against the person wearing it. A belt in that condition may not hold someone properly in a crash. Dealers will replace the retractor — the spring-loaded reel that takes up the slack in the belt — at no charge to you.

How serious is it?

A belt that cannot retract properly may not protect a rear passenger in a crash, so the vehicle can still be driven but anyone riding in the back should check that their belt pulls tight and sits flat.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls — Hornet VINs became searchable on August 15, 2026. 2. Contact your Dodge dealer to schedule the retractor replacement, or call Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403 (recall 84D). 3. Owner letters go out starting September 24, 2026, and the repair is free.
