What's wrong, in plain English

Two power cables in your plug-in hybrid Hornet — the positive cable on the regular 12-volt battery and the cable connector for the high-voltage battery — may not have been tightened enough at the factory. A loose connection can get very hot and start a fire, whether the car is parked or moving. Park outside and away from buildings until a dealer checks both connections and tightens them, which is free.

What you should do

1. Park the vehicle outdoors, away from your home and other buildings, until it is inspected.
2. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Hornet is included.
3. Book the inspection with your Dodge dealer, or call FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall 98A) — tightening the cables is free.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale and 2023-2024 Dodge Hornet plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The 12-volt battery positive cable and/or high voltage connector cable may not be tightened properly, which can overheat the electrical connections and result in a fire while parked or driving.
Safety risk
A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will inspect and tighten the cable connections as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 28, 2023. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 98A.
