BMW, MINI integrated brakes may fail, need inspection high

Reported 2026-07-01 · Campaign 26V422000 · Model years: 2024, 2025

The integrated brake system in these vehicles can malfunction. When it does, you can lose the power assist that makes the brake pedal easy to press, so the pedal goes hard and the vehicle takes longer to stop. The fault can also stop the anti-lock brakes and the stability control from working, which can let you lose control of the vehicle. The dealer inspects the brake unit and replaces it if needed.

BMW i4, i5, iX electric motor software can cut power high

Reported 2025-07-23 · Campaign 25V395000 · Model years: 2024

The software that runs the electric drive motor can shut down the high-voltage system. If that happens, the vehicle loses drive power and will not pull, even though you are still steering and moving. BMW is fixing this with a software update. For many owners it arrives over the air, downloaded by the car itself, and a dealer can also install it. Either way there is no cost. Notification letters went out in August 2025.

BMW and MINI vehicles may lose brake assist power critical

Reported 2024-09-18 · Campaign 24V697000 · Model years: 2024, 2025

Welds inside a small motor in the brake control unit can break. If that happens, you lose power brake assist and the rear brakes stop working, so the pedal gets hard and the vehicle needs much more distance to stop. The anti-lock brakes and the stability control may also quit, which makes the vehicle harder to keep under control. Dealers will replace the whole brake unit for free.

BMW i4 and i5 battery may overheat, fire risk critical

Reported 2024-02-23 · Campaign 24V135000 · Model years: 2024

Some 2024 BMW i4 xDrive40, i4 M50 and i5 eDrive40 cars were built with a large battery pack whose internal parts may not have been welded together well enough. Weak welds can let that section of the battery run too hot, and an overheating battery raises the chance of a fire. The repair is to remove the affected high-voltage battery module and install a new one. Dealers do all of this at no cost to you.

BMW, MINI brake system can lose power assist high

Reported 2024-02-12 · Campaign 24V104000 · Model years: 2024, 2025

Your vehicle has an integrated brake system that can stop working correctly. If it fails, the brake pedal can suddenly get much harder to push, so you have to press far harder and the car needs more room to stop. The same fault can also knock out the anti-lock brakes and the stability control, the systems that keep the car from skidding or spinning during hard stops and slippery corners. The dealer replaces the whole brake unit.

BMW i5 may not make pedestrian warning sound medium

Reported 2023-12-22 · Campaign 23V885000 · Model years: 2024

Electric cars are so quiet that federal rules require them to make an artificial sound so people nearby can hear them coming. On some 2024 BMW i5 eDrive40 and i5 M60 models, the control unit that creates that sound can fail when the car starts up, and no sound is made. Walkers, cyclists, and people who cannot see well may not notice the car approaching. The fix is a software update for the sound system.

BMW 530i and i5 hands-on steering sensor may not work medium

Reported 2023-10-18 · Campaign 23V700000 · Model years: 2024

The steering wheel's ground wire may not have been attached correctly at the factory. That wire powers the system that senses whether your hands are on the wheel. If it does not work, the car may not notice when you let go, and the feature that automatically brings the car to a safe stop when the driver is not responding may not switch on. The dealer checks the connection and reattaches it.
