Which Audi seat belt recalls affect front belts and child seats?
Two patterns run through these six Audi recalls. The first is front belt hardware built wrong, and it clusters hard in 2025 models: damaged retractor torsion bars on the A5, S5, A6 and S6 Sportback e-tron and 2026 Q4 e-tron; front buckles missing the rivet that secures them to the stalk on the Q7, Q8, SQ8 and RS Q8; and incorrectly manufactured front belts on the Q5, Q5 Sportback, SQ5 and SQ5 Sportback. The second is rear belts failing to hold a child seat — a wide 2021 campaign covering the middle-rear belt across most of the A and Q lineup, and a 2025 recall where the automatic locking retractor may not engage on Q6 e-tron models. An older 2017 A4, A6 and A7 recall covers pretensioners alongside airbags.
Warning signs to watch for
- A rear belt that will not switch into child-seat locking mode when you pull it fully out, so the seat never cinches tight.
- A child seat that stays loose after installation using the seat belt (2021 middle-rear belts, 2025 Q6 e-tron rear belts).
- A front buckle that feels loose or unsecured where it meets the stalk (2025 Q7, Q8, SQ8 and RS Q8).
- A front belt that does not retract or restrain the way it should, from a damaged retractor torsion bar.
- Most often nothing noticeable in normal driving — these defects show up only in a crash.
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these six recalls tells owners to stop driving or park the vehicle outside. Every one is about crash protection rather than something that leaves you stranded, so the cars stay usable while you wait for an appointment. But a belt that does not restrain properly only matters at the worst possible moment, so book the work quickly, and keep buckling up on every trip. If you carry children in a vehicle covered by the 2021 middle-rear or 2025 rear-belt recalls, move that appointment up your list.
What the free repair involves
All the work is free. Dealers replace one or both front seat belts on the 2025 A5, S5 and Sportback e-tron models, replace both front buckles on the 2025 Q7 and Q8 family, and replace the front belts on the Q5 and SQ5. For the child-seat recalls they inspect and replace the middle-rear or rear belt assemblies as needed. The 2017 recall replaces affected airbags and pretensioners.

Common questions
Can I still install a child seat before the repair?
The notices do not forbid it, but they warn the belt may not hold a child seat securely or that the automatic locking retractor may not engage. Have the belt inspected before relying on it; the inspection and any replacement are free.
Why do so many 2025 Audis have seat belt recalls?
They are separate manufacturing faults, not one problem: damaged retractor torsion bars, buckles missing a rivet, incorrectly manufactured front belts, and rear retractors that may not lock for child seats. Each has its own affected model list and VIN range.
