Toyota 4Runner accessory grille trim can fall off
medium How serious is it? About this label
If the Billet Grille Overlay detaches while driving, it can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.
What's wrong, in plain English
Some 4Runners were fitted with a decorative billet grille overlay — a trim piece added over the front grille — by Southeast Toyota or its dealers. A small nut that holds this trim in place can crack. If it breaks, the grille overlay can come loose and fall off the front of the vehicle, possibly while you are driving. Dealers will install upgraded fasteners so the trim stays put.
What you should do
2. Call your Toyota dealer or Southeast Toyota customer service at 1-866-405-4226 (recall SET17C) and book an appointment.
3. Have the dealer replace the grille fasteners — the repair is free.
