What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2016-2018 Nissan Titan and Titan XD trucks left with added accessories that cut down how much weight the truck can safely carry. A sticker explaining the new, lower limit was never put on the vehicle, so the owner has no way to know the real figure. Without it, the truck can be loaded past what it can handle. Nissan is mailing a replacement label along with instructions for putting it on.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your truck is covered. 2. Contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or your Nissan dealer to get the new load carrying capacity label, free of charge. 3. Apply the label using the instructions provided, and stay within the stated weight limit when hauling or towing.

Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Nissan Titan, 2016 and 2018 Nissan Titan XD vehicles. Accessories installed on these vehicles reduced the load carrying capacity, however, a Load Carrying Capacity modification label was not installed, possibly allowing the vehicle to be overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
Safety risk: An overloaded vehicle can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Nissan will notify owners and provide a new modification label, with installation instructions, free of charge. The recall began on June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669.
