Jeep Compass front control arm may break apart

NHTSA campaign 18V279000 · Reported 2018-05-01 · Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

critical How serious is it? About this label

Losing control with no warning is one of the most dangerous things that can happen on the road, so treat this as urgent and get the inspection done before any highway driving or long trips.

What's wrong, in plain English

The front lower control arms are metal parts that hold each front wheel to the body of the vehicle and let it steer and ride over bumps. On some 2018 Jeep Compass vehicles these arms may have been welded incorrectly, so an arm can come apart. If that happens while you are driving, the wheel can shift out of position and you can lose control of the vehicle. Dealers inspect the arms and replace them if needed, free.

3. The inspection and any control arm replacement are free of charge.
