Ford EcoSport carries wrong brake fluid cap label

NHTSA campaign 18V312000 · Reported 2018-05-14 · Ford Motor Company

low How serious is it? About this label

Owners could be confused by the incorrect label on the brake fluid cap, potentially causing them to replace the brake fluid with an incorrect fluid which could affect brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some EcoSports were shipped with the European brake fluid cap label and a European owner's manual instead of the U.S. versions. Nothing is broken on the car itself, but the wrong label could lead you or a shop to add the wrong kind of brake fluid. The wrong fluid can hurt how well the brakes work. Dealers will swap in the correct brake fluid cap and the correct owner's manual kit at no cost.
