Ford EcoSport and Transit Connect airbags may not inflate

NHTSA campaign 20V791000 · Reported 2020-12-17 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — the airbag that is supposed to protect you may not work in a crash, raising the risk of injury, though the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some frontal airbags were built without part of the material that inflates them — the first-stage booster propellant and its sleeve are missing. Depending on the vehicle, it is the driver's airbag or the front passenger's airbag that is affected. An airbag missing that material will not inflate the way it is supposed to in a crash, so it will not protect the person sitting in that seat. These vehicles do not meet the federal crash protection standard.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is included, or call Ford at 1-866-436-7332 and mention recall 20C26.
2. Contact a Ford dealer and schedule the replacement of the affected driver or passenger airbag module, which is free.
3. Everyone in the vehicle should keep wearing seat belts until the repair is complete.
