Ford EcoSport axle shafts can pull out, losing power

NHTSA campaign 25V126000 · Reported 2025-02-28 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — losing power in traffic or having the car roll away can cause a crash or injury; the notice does not tell you to stop driving, but get it inspected quickly.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some EcoSports, the shafts that carry power from the transmission to the front wheels can slip out of place. If that happens while you are driving, the engine keeps running but the car stops pulling — you lose drive power, possibly in traffic. A disconnected shaft also means the car may roll away when parked unless the parking brake is set. A dealer will inspect both shafts and replace them if needed. Always set the parking brake until it is fixed.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your EcoSport is affected.
2. Call your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 866-436-7332 and reference recall 25S12.
3. Have the half shafts inspected and replaced if needed — the repair is free — and always use the parking brake when you park.
