Jeep Wrangler track bar bracket welds may fail

NHTSA campaign 18V675000 · Reported 2018-09-28 · Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

critical How serious is it? About this label

This one is serious — steering can be reduced without warning, which can cause a crash; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but you should get the inspection done as soon as you can.

What's wrong, in plain English

The front track bar is a steel link that keeps the front axle centered under the truck. On these Wranglers, the brackets holding that bar to the frame may have been welded poorly. A bad weld can let the bracket break away from the frame, and when that happens the steering can suddenly stop working properly. Dealers will check the welds and fix the brackets if needed.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Wrangler falls under recall 18V675000 (Chrysler code UA5).
2. Contact a Jeep dealer, or Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403, to book the weld inspection.
3. Have the track bar bracket welds inspected and repaired as necessary — there is no charge to you.
