This is a fire risk after a rear-end crash rather than an everyday one, and the notice gives no park-it or park-outside instruction, but it should be replaced as soon as you can.

This recall covers a Mopar rear step kit, part number 82215289AB, sold for 2019 Ram 1500 trucks. If your truck is hit from behind, the step kit can let the rear control arms — suspension parts under the back of the truck — press against the fuel tank. That contact can tear or puncture the tank and let gasoline leak out, which can start a fire. Dealers will replace the bed step, free of charge.

3. Have the dealer install the new bed step — there is no charge.
