What's wrong, in plain English

Certain 2016 through 2018 Mazda3 cars have a faulty relay, a small electrical switch, that controls the windshield wipers. If it fails, the wipers stop working. In rain or snow, that leaves you with a windshield you cannot clear, and you may not be able to see the road well enough to drive safely. A dealer replaces the body control module with a new one that uses a better wiper relay design.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your car is included. 2. Call Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, option 4, or your Mazda dealer and ask about recall 3219D. 3. Book the free replacement of the front body control module.

Remedy
Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front body control module with a new module which uses an improved wiper relay design, free of charge. The recall began May 7, 2019. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, option 4. Mazda's number for this recall is 3219D.
