What's wrong, in plain English

Certain 2016-2018 Audi Q3s with LED headlights have a fault in how the car checks its own lights. If a front turn signal stops working, the car may not show you any warning about it, which federal safety rules require. Without that alert you could turn or change lanes believing your signal is flashing when it is actually dark, leaving other drivers with no idea what you plan to do. Dealers update a control module free of charge.

2. Call your Audi dealer, or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834, to book the software update.
3. Have the body control module updated at no cost; in the meantime, check now and then that both front turn signals still flash.

Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Audi Q3 vehicles equipped with LED headlights. An inoperable front turn signal may not illuminate an indicator, failing to alert the driver to the issue. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Safety risk: Without an indicator informing the driver of an inoperable turn signal, the driver may turn or change lanes without a signal, increasing the risk of crash.
Remedy: Audi will notify owners, and dealers will update the body control module (BCM), free of charge. The recall began June 21, 2019. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 97DK.
