What's wrong, in plain English

Certain 2018 Chevrolet Malibu cars with the 1.5-liter turbo engine have a software error in the engine control module, the computer that manages the engine. The error can shut off the fuel injectors, the parts that feed fuel to the engine. When that happens, the car may refuse to start, or the engine may quit while you are driving. Dealers will reprogram the engine computer with corrected software, free of charge.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Malibu is included. 2. Call your Chevrolet dealer or GM customer service at 1-800-630-2438 (recall N192221960) to schedule the reprogramming. 3. Get the free software update, and if the engine stalls, coast safely off the road before restarting.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2018 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles equipped with 1.5L turbo engines. An error in the Engine Control Module (ECM) software may result in the fuel injectors being disabled.
Safety risk
Disabled fuel injectors would prevent the engine from starting and may cause a stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the ECM software, free of charge. The recall began October 16, 2019. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-630-2438. GM's number for this recall is N192221960.
