Chevrolet Malibu and Cadillac XT4 rear seat belt fasteners loose
medium How serious is it? About this label
Moderate: the car drives normally and the problem only matters in a crash, but a rear belt that is not secured could fail to protect a passenger, so have it inspected soon.
What's wrong, in plain English
GM found that the bolts holding the rear seat belt retractors — the part that lets the belt pull out and wind back in — may be loose or missing. If a retractor is not fastened properly, the rear seat belt may not hold a passenger the way it should in a crash. You cannot tell this is happening just by looking at or using the belt. A dealer will inspect the rear seat belts and tighten the fasteners if needed.
What you should do
2. Call your Chevrolet dealer (1-800-222-1020) or Cadillac dealer (1-800-458-8006) and ask for recall N212333380 (NHTSA 21V649000).
3. Have the dealer inspect and tighten the rear seat belt retractors at no charge.
