Honda CR-V owner's guide misstates passenger airbag light

NHTSA campaign 19V694000 · Reported 2019-09-26 · Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

low How serious is it? About this label

If the front passenger does not correctly understand how the airbag functions, they may be at an increased risk of personal injury in the event of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Nothing is wrong with the car itself here. In some 2019 Honda CR-Vs, the owner's guide gives the wrong description of when the 'Passenger Airbag Off' light on the dash should come on. A passenger who reads it could misunderstand whether the front passenger airbag is switched on or off, and that misunderstanding could matter in a crash. Honda is mailing owners a sticker with the corrected wording to put in the guide, free of charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your CR-V is included.
2. Contact your Honda dealer or customer service at 1-888-234-2138 and ask about recall X6G.
3. Get the free correction sticker and place it in your owner's guide.
