The concern is that you could drive without knowing your anti-lock brakes have failed, which raises crash risk; the notice does not tell you to stop driving, but get the free software fix done.

What's wrong, in plain English

In these trucks, two computers that control the brakes need to talk to each other. If they lose contact, the truck may fail to turn on the dashboard warning light that tells you the anti-lock brakes are not working. So the anti-lock brakes could be broken and you would never know. That falls short of the federal safety rule for brake systems. A dealer will reprogram the body control module software to make the warning light work properly.

2. Contact a Chevrolet dealer or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, recall number N202305070.
3. Have the dealer install the software update, which is free of charge.

Summary
General Motors is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD Medium Duty trucks. If the vehicle's body control module (BCM) loses communication with the vehicle's electronic brake control module (EBCM), the EBCM software programming may not illuminate the vehicle's ABS malfunction indicator light (MIL). As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) Number 105, "Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems."
Safety risk
If a driver is unaware that the ABS system is malfunctioning, there may be an increased risk of a crash.
Remedy
GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the software calibration for the body control module (BCM). The recall began June 29, 2020. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N202305070.
