This is serious because broken nuts can make the truck unstable to steer and raise the chance of a crash, and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so have it fixed as soon as you can.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2021-2022 Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD trucks left the factory with locking nuts that hold parts of the suspension and steering together. Those nuts were not hardened correctly when they were made, so they can snap. If one breaks, the joint it was holding loses its grip and the truck can start to wander or feel unstable when you steer. Your dealer will check the nuts and replace any that need it.

Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Chevrolet 4500HD/5500HD/6500HD vehicles. The hex flange lock nuts used in the suspension and steering joints, were improperly heat treated and may break.
Safety risk: Broken hex flange lock nuts may cause a loss of tension, leading to steering instability, and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the hex flange lock nuts as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed December 27, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed February 10, 2023. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N222391080.
