Honda Pilot, Odyssey, Passport backup camera may not show

NHTSA campaign 20V440000 · Reported 2020-07-28 · Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

medium How serious is it? About this label

A delayed or inoperative rearview camera display can reduce the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Software in the vehicle's main computer network was programmed incorrectly, so the backup camera picture can be slow to appear or may not appear at all when you shift into reverse. Without that view you can miss a child, a pedestrian, or an object directly behind the vehicle. Honda will mail instructions so you can download and install the update yourself for free, or a dealer will do it for you at no charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is covered.
2. Follow the mailed instructions to download and install the free software update yourself, or book a Honda dealer to do it.
3. Questions? Call Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 and mention recall Y7Y. Either way, there is no charge.
