Why do Honda electrical recalls keep causing power and lighting failures?
Two threads run through Honda's electrical recalls. On the car side, hybrids dominate: the 2020 CR-V Hybrid, Accord Hybrid and 2020-2021 Insight can lose drive power when the DC-DC converter shuts down, the 2023-2025 Accord Hybrid from an integrated control module reset, and CR-V Hybrids from 2020-2023 appear twice more for a 12-volt battery cable missing a fuse and high-voltage battery modules that can spark. Software also disables body electronics — the 2018-2020 Accord and Insight body control module, and the 2019-2020 Pilot, Odyssey and Passport rearview camera. On the motorcycle side, wiring and switch harnesses repeat: the 2018 CRF250L, the 2024 CBR650R turn signal harness and CRF1100 Africa Twin handlebar switch corrosion, each costing lights or horn.
Warning signs to watch for
- Sudden loss of drive power or reduced acceleration, mainly on hybrid models
- A 12-volt battery that stops recharging
- Rearview camera image delayed, missing or failing to appear when you shift into reverse
- Wipers, defroster or headlights cutting out intermittently
- On motorcycles: horn, turn signals, brake light, instruments or high beam quit, or a fuse blows
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these twelve recalls carries a stop-driving or park-outside order from Honda or NHTSA. Even the fire-risk ones — the Odyssey third-row outlet harness, the CR-V Hybrid 12-volt battery cable and the 2023 CR-V Hybrid high-voltage battery modules — allow continued driving, but Honda treats them as priority repairs. The hybrid power-loss recalls and the motorcycle lighting and horn harnesses are also driveable, though losing power in traffic or riding without a brake light is a genuine crash risk, so don't let them sit.
What the free repair involves
Dealers inspect wiring and switch harnesses and replace, re-route or tape them — the Odyssey outlet harness, the CRF250L and CBR650R harnesses, the Africa Twin handlebar switch. Hardware recalls replace the CR-V Hybrid battery cable or battery module. The rest are software: body control module, power converter, integrated control module and rearview camera. The camera update can also be self-installed from mailed instructions. Everything is free.

Common questions
My CR-V Hybrid shows up in more than one electrical recall — do I need them all?
Possibly not. The 12-volt battery cable recall covers 2020-2022 CR-V Hybrids and the high-voltage battery module recall covers 2023 models, so most owners need only one. Check your VIN, since the DC-DC converter software recall may also apply.
Can I keep riding my Honda motorcycle with the horn or lighting recall open?
Honda has not told riders to stop. Nothing here prevents the engine from running, but a dead brake light, turn signal, high beam or horn makes you harder to see and hear, so book the free harness or switch repair quickly.
Will I get any warning before the car loses power?
The notices describe no advance warning for the hybrid power-loss recalls. The DC-DC converter shutdown, the integrated control module CPU reset and the Clarity Fuel Cell control unit error can each cut drive power while you are moving.
