Dodge Charger Pursuit backup camera blanks in stealth mode

NHTSA campaign 20V512000 · Reported 2020-08-27 · Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

This is a moderate risk that raises the chance of backing into someone or something; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so you can keep driving, but back up slowly and turn around and look until the software fix is done.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some Dodge Charger Pursuit police cars have a setting called stealth mode, which turns off the lights and screens so the car is less noticeable at night. The problem is that when stealth mode is on, the backup camera picture does not appear on the screen when you shift into reverse. That means you back up with no camera view, and you cannot see a child, a person, or an object behind the car.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included in recall W62.
2. Call a Chrysler dealer, or Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403, and book an appointment.
3. Have the dealer update the software so the camera always shows in reverse — the repair is free.
