On these Dodge Chargers, the left rear seat back may not lock in the upright position the way it should. On certain Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 cars, the side curtain airbags that run above the side windows were built with a defect. The parking brake on these cars may not have been adjusted correctly when they were built. That means the brake may not hold the car the way it should, and the car can roll away after you park it. Because of this, the vehicles also do not meet the federal safety rule for light vehicle brakes. A dealer will adjust the parking brake properly, and the work is free. Owner letters went out in late February 2024.
Certain 2022 Dodge Charger and Durango vehicles have a shifter assembly that was not heat-treated correctly, so the metal is not as strong as it should be. Because of that, the shifter may not fully catch in the "drive" position. It can slip out of drive on its own, and the vehicle would suddenly stop pulling while you are on the road. Dealers will replace the shifter assembly free of charge.
These Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Chrysler 300 cars have small sensors in the wheels that watch your tire pressure. The batteries inside those sensors can die early, so a sensor stops working. Then the car cannot warn you when a tire is actually low. Worse, if the warning light is already lit because of a dead sensor battery, you may ignore it and miss a real low tire. Driving on a low tire can cause it to fail.
These cars have sensors in the wheels that watch your tire pressure. The battery inside a sensor can die too early, so the sensor stops working. When that happens, the system will not warn you that a tire is going low. Worse, if the warning light is already on because of a dead sensor battery, it can hide a real low-tire problem. Some Dodge Charger Pursuit police cars have a setting called stealth mode, which turns off the lights and screens so the car is less noticeable at night. The problem is that when stealth mode is on, the backup camera picture does not appear on the screen when you shift into reverse. That means you back up with no camera view, and you cannot see a child, a person, or an object behind the car.
These cars left the factory with front wheels and brakes that do not fit together properly. Because of the mismatch, the front tire can rub against the steering knuckle, the metal part the wheel is mounted on. The computer that runs the engine has a small part inside, a voltage regulator chip, that can fail. When it does, the engine can shut off while you are driving, or the vehicle may not start at all. A stall in traffic leaves you without engine power and can put you in the path of other vehicles. Dealers will replace the whole engine computer at no charge.
These vehicles have cruise control, which holds a set speed for you. A short circuit in the wiring can lock the cruise control on. If that happens, tapping the brake pedal or pressing the off button may not shut it off, and the vehicle can keep its speed or even speed up on its own. Chrysler tells owners to stop using cruise control until the free computer software update is done at a dealer.
The wrong part may have been installed inside the automatic transmission. It is a rod that locks the transmission when you move the shifter into Park. If the wrong rod is in there, the transmission may not actually lock, so the vehicle can roll on its own after you think you have parked it. That could hurt someone standing nearby or cause a crash. A dealer installs the correct rod for free.
These are all-wheel-drive Dodge Charger police vehicles with V8 engines. The joint on the front driveshaft, the spinning bar that sends power to the front wheels, can seize up or break. If it does, the whole shaft can come off the underside of the car while it is moving and land in the road, creating a hazard for the car itself and for anyone driving behind it.
