Volvo trucks may have loose or missing front axle nut

NHTSA campaign 20V535000 · Reported 2020-09-02 · Volvo Trucks North America

critical How serious is it? About this label

This is serious because the front end could come apart with no warning; the notice does not order owners to park the truck, but it should be checked before further use.

What's wrong, in plain English

When the front axle was put together, a large nut that holds the steering knuckle onto the axle may have been left off or not tightened enough. The steering knuckle is the part the front wheel turns on. If that nut is missing or loose, the knuckle can come apart from the axle. If that happens while the truck is moving, the driver could suddenly lose control, and a crash could follow.
