This is serious because a skid or locked brakes can cause a crash, but Volvo has not told owners to stop driving, so you can keep using the truck while you get the free fix scheduled.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some Volvo VNR Electric trucks built for model years 2020 through 2023 have adaptive cruise control, the feature that slows the truck automatically to keep space from traffic ahead. When the truck is running light, that system can grab the brakes far harder than it should. The sudden hard braking can make the rear wheels skid or the brakes lock up, and the driver can lose control. Dealers will remove the radar parts and turn the feature off.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is included. 2. Call your Volvo Trucks dealer, or Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586, and ask for recall RVXX2303. 3. Have the repair done — it is free, and adaptive cruise control will be switched off permanently.

Summary
Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2020-2023 VNR Electric vehicles equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). When the adaptive cruise control braking activates under light load conditions, it can trigger an aggressive braking response.
Safety risk
Overly aggressive braking can result in the rear axle skidding, the brakes locking up, and/or a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will secure wiring and remove radar antennas and brackets from the vehicle. The anti-lock braking system will be reprogrammed to disable adaptive cruise control. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 2, 2023. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2303.
