Chevy Corvette driver's seat belt may not lock in crash

NHTSA campaign 20V581000 · Reported 2020-09-24 · General Motors LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

In the event of a crash, if the driver's seat belt fails to lock, there is an increased risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The driver's seat belt has a part inside that is supposed to lock up and hold you in place during a crash. On some 2020 Corvettes, that locking part may not grab the way it should. You would not notice anything wrong in normal driving; the belt still buckles and pulls across you, but in a crash it could let out extra slack and fail to hold the driver back.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Corvette is included.
2. Call any Chevrolet dealer, or GM customer service at 1-866-522-9559, and ask for recall N202307690.
3. Have the dealer replace the driver's side seat belt retractor — the repair is free.
