Honda and Acura fuel pump can fail and stall engine

NHTSA campaign 21V215000 · Reported 2021-03-25 · Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

high How serious is it? About this label

An engine that quits without warning in traffic or on the highway can lead to a crash, so this should be fixed promptly, although the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle.

What's wrong, in plain English

The pump that pushes gasoline out of the fuel tank toward the engine sits inside the tank, and on these Honda and Acura vehicles it can stop working. When it fails, the engine can stall, meaning it shuts off while you are driving, and that can happen at any speed. Your dealer will replace the whole fuel pump assembly at no cost to you. This recall is a larger version of an earlier Honda recall, 20V-314.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see whether your car is on the list.
2. Contact any Honda or Acura dealer, or call Honda at 1-888-234-2138, to schedule the fuel pump replacement.
3. Get it done even if the car seems fine; the new pump is free.
