Silverado and Sierra 2500: spare tire can disable anti-lock brakes

NHTSA campaign 21V578000 · Reported 2021-07-29 · General Motors, LLC

medium How serious is it? About this label

The truck is fine on its normal tires, but driving on that spare can cost you your anti-lock brakes and raise crash risk, so get the correct spare before you need it.

What's wrong, in plain English

These trucks came with a 17-inch spare tire and either 20-inch or 18-inch accessory road tires. Using that spare alongside those bigger tires can keep the anti-lock brakes from working. Without anti-lock braking able to manage the rear wheels separately, you have less control in a hard or emergency stop, and a crash is more likely. The dealer will give you the right spare tire and a new label showing the correct spare information.
