Chevrolet tire recalls: tread separation, wrong spares and bad labels

10 NHTSA recalls · Chevrolet · Tires · model years 2019–2025 (we track 2018 and newer) · newest 2026-08-13

Most of this group is tire construction. Continental supplied overcured tires across 2019-2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Traverse, Blazer, Express and the Buick, GMC and Cadillac equivalents in three separate recalls; a Hankook shortage of curative agent put tread separation into 2021-2022 Equinox and GMC Terrain; and in October 2025 the 21-inch Continental all-season tires on 2025-2026 Equinox EV and Cadillac Optiq were recalled for partial or full tread detachment. The rest are wheel-and-label mismatches: a 17-inch spare that can disable anti-lock brakes on Silverado 1500 and 2500 with accessory wheels, wrong tires and unreliable TPMS readings on the 2024 Colorado, a bad rear pressure label on 2024-2025 Silverado 2500, and a 2021 Trailblazer label missing tire data entirely.

Warning signs to watch for

Is it safe to keep driving?

No recall here tells you to stop driving or park outside. The tire-construction recalls — Hankook on Equinox and Terrain, Continental on the 2019-2021 trucks and SUVs and on the Equinox EV and Optiq — are the urgent ones, because a tread can separate at speed; get the DOT numbers checked promptly. The spare-tire recalls only matter if you actually mount the mismatched spare, so avoid using it. The Colorado, the Silverado 2500 label and the Trailblazer label vehicles are fine to drive if you keep pressures correct with your own gauge.

What the free repair involves

Dealers read the tires' DOT numbers and replace any on the affected list, including the DOT week 4024 tires on the Equinox EV and Optiq. Spare-tire recalls bring a correct spare and wheel plus a new label. On the 2024-2025 Silverado 2500, dealers apply a label overlay, update the engine control module software, set pressures and re-learn the TPMS. Trailblazer owners get a mailed label. All free.

Common questions

How do I know whether my tires are actually the recalled ones?

These recalls target specific DOT numbers and production mold combinations, not every tire on the vehicle. Dealers inspect the DOT codes and replace only the matching tires — the Equinox EV and Optiq recall names tires built in DOT week 4024.

Can I use the 17-inch spare on my Silverado in the meantime?

GM says running that spare with the accessory 18-inch or 20-inch road tires can keep the anti-lock brake system from working properly. The truck is fine on its regular tires; get the compatible spare and wheel assembly before you need it.

My 2024 Colorado's tire pressure readings look wrong — is that the recall?

Possibly. GM recalled certain 2024 Colorados because incorrect tires may have been installed that do not match the tire label, and the TPMS may report inaccurate information for them. Check pressures with your own gauge and have the dealer inspect.

A recall applies only to specific vehicles. Check your 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
