GMC tire recalls: tread separation and wrong spare tire warnings
Tire supply problems dominate this group. Four recalls cover tires cured wrong at the factory: Hankook tires on 2021-2022 Terrain and Equinox built with too little curative agent, and Continental tires that were overcured on 2019-2021 Sierra 1500 and Acadia, with Yukon and Savana named alongside their Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet cousins. Both defects can end in tread separation or sudden failure at speed. The other three are fitment and labeling problems rather than bad tires: 2019-2021 Sierra 1500 and 2020-2021 Sierra 2500 trucks delivered with a 17-inch spare that does not match accessory 18- or 20-inch wheels and can knock out the anti-lock brakes, and 2024-2025 Sierra 2500s with enhanced towing carrying a label listing the wrong rear tire pressure.
Warning signs to watch for
- A sudden blowout or tread coming off at speed — the curing defects may give no warning beforehand
- Braking that does not work properly while the mismatched 17-inch spare is mounted with accessory wheels
- A spare tire whose size does not match the 18- or 20-inch accessory wheels fitted to the truck
- Rear tires that stay underinflated when set to the pressure printed on the label, on Sierra 2500s with enhanced towing
- Only a dealer reading the DOT and mold numbers can confirm whether your tires are among the affected ones
Is it safe to keep driving?
No recall in this group tells owners to stop driving or park outside. The four curing-defect recalls — Hankook on Terrain and Equinox, Continental on Sierra 1500 and Acadia — are the urgent ones, because tread separation can happen suddenly at highway speed; book the free DOT-number inspection right away rather than waiting. The spare-tire and label recalls are different: the trucks are safe on their normal tires. Avoid driving on the mismatched 17-inch spare, since braking may not work properly, and on affected Sierra 2500s check rear pressures yourself until the label is corrected.
What the free repair involves
All of this work is free. For the Hankook and Continental recalls, dealers read the DOT and mold numbers and replace any tires that match the flagged combinations. For the spare-tire recalls, they supply a compatible spare tire and wheel and fit a new spare tire information label. On 2024-2025 Sierra 2500s they update the engine control module software, apply a label overlay, set the correct pressures and re-learn the TPMS.

Common questions
Will the dealer replace all four tires?
Not automatically. In both the Hankook and Continental recalls dealers inspect the DOT numbers first and replace only the tires that match the affected codes, free of charge. Some vehicles turn out to have no affected tires and need nothing.
Can I still use the 17-inch spare in an emergency?
The notices warn that running that spare with 18- or 20-inch accessory road tires can disable the anti-lock brake system, so braking may not work properly. Get the compatible spare and wheel from your dealer before you need it.
My Sierra 2500 label shows the wrong rear pressure — what should I inflate to?
Until the dealer applies the corrected label overlay, don't rely on the printed figure; the recall exists because it leaves the rear tires underinflated. Ask your GMC dealer for the correct pressure for your towing and accessory wheel package.
