Volkswagen Taos fuel line connector can leak gas

NHTSA campaign 21V651000 · Reported 2021-08-20 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

critical How serious is it? About this label

This is serious because a leak can both stall the engine and start a fire, and while Volkswagen has not told owners to stop driving, you should get the inspection done as soon as your dealer can take the car.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some 2022 Volkswagen Taos, the quick-connect fitting that joins the fuel line under the hood can pop off. If that happens, gasoline can leak out into the engine compartment. The engine may stall while you are driving, and leaking fuel near anything hot or sparking can catch fire. Dealers will look at the connection and, if needed, put in a new fuel line and connector at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Taos is included in recall 20DB.
2. Call your Volkswagen dealer to book the inspection, or contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
3. Have the inspection and any fuel line and connector replacement done — the repair is free.
