Mercedes GLB window airbag may be mounted incorrectly

NHTSA campaign 21V860000 · Reported 2021-11-05 · Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC

medium How serious is it? About this label

The car drives normally and the notice puts no restrictions on it, but if you are in a crash the driver's window airbag may not protect you, so this is worth fixing.

What's wrong, in plain English

The airbag that drops down along the driver's side windows may not have been bolted properly to the bottom of the front pillar, the post beside the windshield. If it is loose, it may not open or hold in place the way it should in a crash, so it may not protect the driver or keep people from being thrown out of a window. A dealer will check how the airbag is mounted and fix it if needed, free.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your GLB 250 or AMG GLB 35 is covered.
2. Book an appointment with a Mercedes-Benz dealer to inspect the driver-side window airbag mounting, or call MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
3. Have any needed repair done; it costs you nothing.
