Moderate: you can keep driving, but with no rear image you cannot see what is behind you when backing up, which raises the chance of a crash, so check mirrors and turn around carefully until it is fixed.

What's wrong, in plain English

A software error can keep the backup camera from showing its picture on the dashboard screen when you shift into reverse. Instead of the view behind the vehicle, the screen may show nothing at all. Because of this, these Mercedes-Benz vehicles do not meet the federal rear visibility requirement. Dealers will update the rearview camera software free of charge. It is a software fix, so no new parts are needed and the visit should be short.

1. Confirm your vehicle with your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. 2. Call your Mercedes-Benz dealer for the software update, or MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, recall number 2022060007. 3. The update is free of charge.

Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2018-2021 CLA-Class, GLE/GLS-Class, A-Class, C-Class, E-Class, E-Class Coupe/Convertible, GLA/GLB-Class, GLC-Class, and CLS-Class vehicles. Please refer to MBUSA's recall report for specific vehicle model details. The rearview camera may not display the rearview image due to a software error. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Safety risk
An inoperable rearview camera display reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will update the rearview camera software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 15, 2022. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2022060007.
