A sudden drop in engine power can happen without warning and raises the risk of a crash, so get this repaired as soon as your dealer can take the car.

What's wrong, in plain English

Audi found that spilled drinks in the back seat, or water leaking in through a poorly sealed spot underneath the car, can soak a computer module that lets the car's systems talk to each other. If that module gets wet it shuts down, and the engine can suddenly lose power while you are driving. Dealers will fit a protective cover over the module and seal the gap under the body at no cost to you.

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your car falls under campaign 21V947000.
2. Call your Audi dealer to book the repair, or reach Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 (recall 90S9).
3. Have the dealer install the protective cover and seal the underbody seam — the work is free.

Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:BODY CONTROL MODULE/BCM
Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Q5 Sportback, SQ5 Sportback, 2018-2022 Q5, and SQ5 vehicles. A liquid spill in the rear seat, or water ingress from an insufficient body seam underneath the vehicle may allow liquid to penetrate the gateway control module, causing it to shutdown.
Safety risk: A gateway control module shutdown will suddenly reduce engine power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will install a protective cover on the gateway control module and seal an underbody seam as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 21, 2022. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 90S9.
