Audi Q5 engine screws can loosen and leak oil

NHTSA campaign 25V294000 · Reported 2025-05-07 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

An engine fire is a serious hazard, and while Audi has not told owners to park the car or stop driving, you should get this checked quickly and watch for oil smells, smoke, or a dropping oil level.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2022 through 2024 Audi Q5 Quattro and Q5 Sportback Quattro models, the screws that hold the cover on top of the engine may not have been tightened properly at the factory. Over time those screws can work loose. When that happens, engine oil can seep out from under the cover. Oil escaping onto hot engine parts can catch fire. Dealers will inspect the screws and replace them if needed.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Q5 is covered. 2. Contact your Audi dealer, or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834, and reference recall 15ZK. 3. Schedule the inspection — the check and any new screws cost you nothing.
