This is less immediately dangerous than a broken part, but driving without knowing your stability control has failed raises crash risk; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Certain Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks and Dodge Durango SUVs have a software problem in the anti-lock brake computer. Because of it, the dashboard warning light for the electronic stability control — the system that helps keep the vehicle from skidding or spinning — may not light up when that system has a problem. So you could be driving with the stability system not working and never be told about it. Dealers will update the software free of charge.

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included. 2. Call your dealer, or FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403, and reference recall Z20. 3. Have the free software update performed.

Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2019-2022 Ram 2500 and 2021-2022 Dodge Durango vehicles, and 2019-2022 3500 cab chassis with GVWR less than 10,000 lbs. The ABS control module software may prevent the electronic stability control (ESC) malfunction indicator light from illuminating during certain conditions. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
Safety risk: An ESC malfunction indicator light that fails to illuminate during an electronic stability control problem can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the ABS control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 29, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is Z20.
