Dodge brake and ABS module recalls: what owners should know
Two of these five FCA recalls cover the same vehicles twice. The 2018-2019 Dodge Durango (with the Jeep Grand Cherokee) was recalled in 2022 for an ABS module that lit the brake lights and let the vehicle start and shift out of Park without the pedal pressed; in November 2024 that remedy was replaced, and the same module was also found to disable ABS and electronic stability control. ABS software is the recurring thread — 2019-2022 Ram 2500/3500 and 2021-2022 Durango got a software fix for an ESC warning light that would not illuminate. The hardware outliers are the 2024-2025 Hornet brake pedal, which can collapse outright, and rear caliper pistons on 2018-2019 Grand Caravan, 2018 Journey and Compass.
Warning signs to watch for
- Brake lights glowing when nobody is pressing the pedal
- A Durango or Grand Cherokee that starts or shifts out of Park with the brake pedal untouched, or rolls after being parked
- ABS and electronic stability control warning lights, or those systems going dead
- A Hornet brake pedal that feels soft, sinks or collapses underfoot
- Weak rear braking or longer stopping distances; on the Ram/Durango software recall there may be no warning light at all when ESC fails
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these five recalls carries a stop-driving or park-outside order from NHTSA or FCA. They are not equal, though. The 2024-2025 Hornet is the one to schedule first, because a collapsing pedal means losing brakes without warning. The 2018-2019 Durango ABS recall allows a rollaway, so set the parking brake every time and keep children clear of the vehicle. With the Grand Caravan, Journey and Compass caliper recall, leave extra stopping distance. The Ram and Durango ESC software recall is least urgent, but you will not be warned if stability control quits.
What the free repair involves
Every repair is free. On 2018-2019 Durango, dealers replace the integrated pressure transducer and update the ABS module software as necessary. Hornets get the brake pedal arm reinforced. Grand Caravan, Journey, Cherokee and Compass owners get the brake system bled. Ram 2500/3500 and Durango vehicles with the ESC light defect get an ABS control module software update — no over-the-air option in this group.

Common questions
I already had the 2022 Durango ABS recall done. Am I finished?
No. That recall was replaced by NHTSA number 24V838. Vehicles already repaired under the earlier recall need the new remedy completed — replacement of the integrated pressure transducer and updated ABS module software — again at no charge.
Can my Durango actually roll away out of Park?
Yes. The ABS module malfunction can allow the vehicle to start and shift out of Park without the brake pedal being applied, and a rollaway can happen with no prior warning. Always set the parking brake and keep people clear.
Which of these Dodge brake recalls is the most urgent?
The 2024-2025 Hornet pedal collapse. It is the one where brake function can be lost with no warning at all. FCA does not order owners to park the car, but book the free pedal-arm reinforcement as soon as a dealer has an opening.
