Ford Edge rearview camera may show blank or distorted image

NHTSA campaign 22V151000 · Reported 2022-03-11 · Ford Motor Company

medium How serious is it? About this label

The notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but a camera that goes blank reduces your view behind the vehicle and raises the crash risk, so back up slowly and check over your shoulder until it is fixed.

What's wrong, in plain English

A software glitch can make the backup camera show a blank screen or a scrambled picture when you shift into reverse. That means you may not be able to see what is behind you while backing up, such as a child, a pole, or another car. The fix is a software update. A dealer can install it, or your vehicle may receive it automatically over the air. Either way, it costs you nothing.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Edge is covered. 2. Contact a Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and mention recall 22S14. 3. Get the camera software updated at the dealer or accept the over-the-air update; it is free.
