Ram pickup backup camera image may not appear

NHTSA campaign 22V407000 · Reported 2022-06-09 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

A rearview camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

A software glitch in the radio can stop the backup camera picture from showing on the screen when you shift into reverse. This affects certain 2022 Ram 1500 and 2500 pickups and 3500 cab chassis trucks. Federal rules require these trucks to display that view, so they do not meet the standard. Without the picture you lose the rear view the camera is supposed to give you while backing up. The dealer reloads the radio software, which takes care of it.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is part of campaign 22V407000.
2. Contact your Ram dealer, or FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403, and reference recall Z47 to schedule the software update.
3. The reprogramming is free and usually quick; until then, check behind the truck before reversing.
