Jeep Wrangler, Gladiator and Ram 1500 backup camera blanks

NHTSA campaign 22V638000 · Reported 2022-08-25 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

Moderately serious — the notice says the missing rear view raises the crash risk while backing up, but it does not tell owners to stop driving, so you can keep driving while checking your mirrors and looking over your shoulder.

What's wrong, in plain English

The radio software in these trucks and SUVs can glitch so the backup camera picture never appears on the screen when you shift into reverse. You may see a blank screen instead of the view behind you. That does not meet the federal rule requiring rear visibility. A dealer fixes it by loading updated radio software — no parts needed. Chrysler mailed owner letters in October 2022, and the update costs nothing.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included.
2. Call your Jeep or Ram dealer, or FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall Z86), and book the software update.
3. Have the update done — the repair is free; never pay for a recall fix.
