Ford E-450 rear wheel can separate from vehicle

NHTSA campaign 22V792000 · Reported 2022-10-20 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

A wheel coming off at speed can cause a crash with no warning, so even though Ford did not tell owners to park the van, this should be checked right away.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some 2023 Ford E-450 vans, a bolt that holds the rear axle rotor to the wheel hub may not have been tightened enough at the factory. If that bolt is loose, the wheel can come off the vehicle while you drive. Dealers will check the rear axle serial number and, if needed, take apart and inspect the rotor and hub. If any bolts are loose, the whole rotor and hub assembly is replaced, free.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your E-450 is part of recall 22S68.
2. Call your Ford dealer to schedule the rear axle inspection, or reach Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
3. Have the inspection and any needed hub replacement done — the work is free.
