Ford E-350, E-450 and F-59 fuel tanks may rust

NHTSA campaign 22V925000 · Reported 2022-12-14 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

Very serious because a fuel leak can lead to a fire; Ford does not tell owners to park the vehicle, but have the tank inspected promptly and stop driving if you smell or see fuel.

What's wrong, in plain English

On these vans and truck chassis, the paint along a welded seam on the gas tank can peel off. Once bare metal is exposed, it can rust through, and gasoline can start leaking from the tank. If that leaking fuel reaches anything hot or a spark, it can start a fire. Dealers will inspect the fuel tank and replace it if needed, at no charge to you.
