Cadillac XT5 and GMC Acadia axle shaft can separate

NHTSA campaign 23V043000 · Reported 2023-02-02 · General Motors, LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — losing drive power in traffic or having the vehicle roll away after you park can both cause a crash or injury, and while the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, this should be fixed promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The right-front axle shaft that sends engine power to the wheel may not have been attached to the transmission correctly, so it can pull apart. If that happens the vehicle can suddenly lose the ability to move under its own power. Worse, with the shaft separated, shifting into park may not actually hold the vehicle, so it could roll away on its own after you get out. Dealers replace the right-front axle shaft assembly at no charge.

What you should do

Call your dealer or customer service — Cadillac at 1-800-458-8006, GMC at 1-800-462-8782 (recall N222393410) — to schedule the free replacement. 3. Until it is repaired, always set the parking brake when you park, especially on any slope.
