GM SUVs may lose power from faulty transmission gear

NHTSA campaign 23V172000 · Reported 2023-03-16 · General Motors, LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — losing drive power or having the vehicle roll away while in park both raise the risk of a crash, so have it fixed as soon as parts are available.

What's wrong, in plain English

The transmission in these Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC SUVs may have been built with the wrong gear inside. Because of that, the axle shaft on the driver's side can come apart from the transmission. If it does, the vehicle can suddenly lose the power that drives the wheels. It also means the vehicle may roll away after you shift into park, because park no longer holds it in place.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is covered. 2. Contact your dealer about recall N222389310 (Cadillac 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet 1-800-222-1020, GMC 1-800-462-8782). 3. The dealer replaces the gears free of charge.
