What's wrong, in plain English

The windshield has a small heater that keeps the forward-facing camera clear. On these Q7s, the camera's control software does not match that heater, and the heater can get too hot. An overheating heater element can start a fire. An Audi dealer will update the camera software and replace the heater element at no cost to you. Audi expected to mail owner letters on May 26, 2023, so contact a dealer if yours has not arrived.

3. Schedule the software update and heater element replacement — both are free.

Summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2020 Q7 vehicles. Incompatibility between the front camera control software and the heating element used for the front camera on the windshield may cause the heating element to overheat.
Safety risk
An overheated heating element can increase the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Dealers will update the control software and replace the heater element for the front camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 26, 2023. Owners may contact Audi's customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 90N7.
