The white lights that come on when you shift into reverse can't be seen from some angles on these SUVs. That means a person walking behind you, or a driver in the next lane over, may not get the usual warning that you're about to back up. The lights don't meet the federal rule for how visible they have to be. Rivian will repair or replace the reverse lights at no cost to you.
What you should do
1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your R1S is affected. 2. Contact Rivian about recall FSAM-1216 at 1-855-748-4265. 3. Have the reverse lights repaired or replaced — the work is free.

- Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2022-2023 R1S vehicles. The reverse light beam may not be visible from certain angles. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

- Rivian will repair or replace the reverse lights, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 12, 2023. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-855-748-4265. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1216.
