Rivian headlight, turn signal and reverse light recalls explained for owners
Four of these five Rivian recalls are federal lighting-standard (FMVSS 108) compliance failures, and the same defect appears twice: front turn signals on the R1S and R1T that may fail to illuminate and flash, recalled in June 2025 for 2025 vehicles and again in August 2026 covering 2025-2026 vehicles. The 2025 model year carries the heaviest load, also picking up headlight low beams that may fail to illuminate when the vehicle is started in cold weather. Older vehicles account for the rest — improperly aimed headlights on 2023-2024 R1S, R1T and EDV, and reverse lights on 2022-2023 R1S that may not be visible from certain angles.
Warning signs to watch for
- Low beams that do not come on when you start the vehicle on a cold morning
- One or both front turn signals failing to light up and flash
- Headlight beams that seem aimed too high or too low, cutting down how far ahead you can see at night
- Reverse lights that are hard for people beside or behind the vehicle to see when you back up
- Several of these faults are only visible from outside the vehicle, so a walk-around check is the practical way to spot them
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these five recalls tells owners to stop driving or park outside. The cold-weather low beam failure is the most serious of the group: driving is allowed, but check that your low beams come on before any night or cold-weather drive. With the front turn signal recalls, confirm both signals flash before setting off and use hand signals if one is out. Misaimed headlights and the hard-to-see reverse lights are lower-level problems — keep driving, but slow down at night and back up carefully.
What the free repair involves
The remedies are all hardware, not software. Rivian replaces the headlight control modules on the cold-weather low beam recall, inspects and adjusts headlight alignment where needed on the aiming recall, inspects and replaces front turn signals as necessary on both signal recalls, and repairs or replaces the reverse lights on the R1S recall. Every repair is free of charge.

Common questions
Why were the front turn signals recalled twice?
The June 2025 recall covered 2025 R1S and R1T vehicles and the August 2026 recall covers 2025-2026 R1S and R1T for the same fault. Letters for the newer campaign are expected to be mailed September 29, 2026.
Is a remedy available yet for the turn signal recall?
For the June 2025 campaign, owner letters went out September 22, 2025, and Rivian said owners will receive a second notice once the remedy becomes available. Rivian customer service is 1-888-748-4261 for status on your vehicle.
My low beams work fine in mild weather — am I still affected?
Possibly. That recall describes low beams that may fail to illuminate specifically when the vehicle is started in cold weather, so warm-weather behavior proves nothing. Rivian replaces the headlight control modules free of charge.
